How the card was born
I had been reading Corrado Malanga and his Triade Color Test. According to his model, a being has three parts: Anima, Mind and Spirit, and each one has its own color. Those colors, added together in their exact intensity, make white light, just as happens with real light. The body, matter, is the earth that sustains the process.
When the three parts shine in their exact measure, none stronger and none dimmer, white appears: unification, the moment when the soul materializes. For me that is balance. Not standing still, but letting each part shine as much as it should.
In everyday life that triad shows up like this: the anima in what you feel, the mind in what you think and the spirit in the direction you give to what you do. That is why the card asks whether the three are pointing the same way.
The column of the card came from there. At the bottom the colors are separate, and as they rise they melt together until they become light.
If you want to know how other cards are born, read How a Card Is Born: From Symbol to Photomontage.
Uniting to become light
The heart of The Axis is union. It is not about choosing one part and switching off the others, but about bringing them together. Uniting to become light and, from that union, going beyond the purely material.
That is why it belongs to the Mind level. It speaks of structure and inner order, the scaffolding needed for something to be transformed. Without that order, the energy is there, but it scatters.
The shadow: when one color dominates
The shadow of this card is not darkness or destruction. It is imbalance.
There are three typical ways to fall into it: a mind that dominates and rationalizes everything, an anima that overflows into emotion without direction, or a spirit that flies so high it forgets the earth. In all three cases the result is the same: nothing materializes. There is intention and there is energy, but the project does not come down to earth.
Transmutation is not achieved by switching off a color, but by adjusting the glow of each one until the light is white.
The 22: the number that builds
The Axis is card No. 22, the master number of the builder. In numerology, the 22 reduces to 4: structure, foundation and order. That is the reading this card carries. For the spiritual to become concrete, there must first be an inner order to hold it up.
The Axis in a spread
In Soul Tracing the cards are not read alone. A spread is read like a sentence built between several cards. The Axis is almost never the whole message. It is usually the central verb, the sign that something needs to be balanced for the rest of the sentence to come true. What the cards around it say shows which part is asking for attention.
To work with it today: contemplation
The Axis is not worked with effort. It is worked with introspection.
Sit for a few minutes in silence and imagine three colors inside you: one for the anima, one for the mind and one for the spirit. Notice which one shines most and which one is dim, without correcting anything, just looking. Then imagine that the three rise along your spine and meet at the top, in the center of the head, until they turn white. Stay for a while in that white.
